Police Station Representation

A police interview is a daunting and nerve-wracking experience.    You will be under the spotlight.  The police control the interview space and decide where and when the interview will take place.   They are trained in interview techniques and the interview will be tape recorded and may even be recorded on CCTV.

We therefore recommend that you should never allow yourself to be interviewed by the police without an experienced defence solicitor being present.

If you are required to attend a police interview it is vital

that you know and understand your rights, so that you can make an informed decision on how to respond to police questioning prior to the interview taking place.

If you are arrested, or attend at a police station by arrangement you have the right to a private consultation with a solicitor before questioning begins and at any other time during questioning.  You also have the right to have your solicitor present during the interview. These are very important rights.

How you respond when dealing with police officers will shape the investigation and any future prosecution.  What you say at interview will be used against you and often makes the difference between being prosecuted and being released without charge.

If you are prosecuted what you say during a police interview can make the difference between a conviction and an acquittal.

For this very reason we would normally advise you to make no comment during a police interview.  Remember you have the right to remain silent.

If you are facing a police interview, we will advise you on police powers, the likely tactics the police will employ before, during and after any interview.  We will explain the reasons why you are being interviewed, the interview process itself and what will happen after the conclusion of the interview.

Crucially we will ensure that your position is protected and that you are treated fairly by the police throughout the process.

We will always represent you in person at any police interview.
